Great Global Warming - Information and Facts on Global Warming and Climate Change - Carbon Footpint facts

Welcome to GREAT GLOBAL WARMING

GreatGlobalWarming.com offers facts and information about global warming, global climate change, climate forecasts and predictions, and all things related to the news, topics and events surrounding Global Warming. We have information, news and views from scientists and experts on Global Warming you won't find in the mainstream media. While the alarmists scream the end of the world is coming due to Global Warming and it's our fault ... we present the other side of the story - the truth. And the truth is that any Global Warming that is occuring is most likely the result of natural, unstoppable and largely unpredictable causes - and the big scare is mostly about money, power and man's arrogance that some people think they understand the world's climate processes to the point (that given enough money and power) they can predict and control it.

What is the #1 source of greenhouse gas? Water vapor. That's right! Water vapor provides the most greenhouse gas on the planet thanks primarily to the fact that water covers about 3/4 of the the globe and as water evaporates it becomes part of the atmosphere. AND THAT IS GREAT! Without water vapor we wouldn't have clouds or rain - and most plants and animals could not survive with out these things.

If you need resources and information to combat the nonsense and foolishness you hear everywhere about Global Warming - you're at the right place!

FORGET GLOBAL WARMING! 2008 IS THE COLDEST WINTER IN 50 YEARS

2008 has seen one of the coldest and devastating winters in 50 years...worldwide. From Brazil to China, Chili to Wisconsin, England to Afganistan - we've seen world record (and near record) cold weather blamed for hundreds of deaths (107 in China alone) and unknown amount of economic losses. But what happened to manmade global warming and the record warm winter predicted by our "so-called" weather experts? They were wrong - (View Predictions of record warm temperatures for 2007) In fact, for nearly a decade, there has been no global warming. Even though atmospheric carbon dioxide continues to accumulate - it's up about 4 percent since 1998 - the global mean temperature has remained flat. Remember the fears about melting Artic Ice and drowing polar bears? Guess what...the vanishing artic sea ice of 2007 is now back to it's normal previous level. Gee...who predicted that? No one. In fact, it was just the opposite - with global warming "experts" predicting record low artic sea ice.

Global Warming
Is carbon dioxide produced by humans the cause of Global Warming? Nobel Prize winners, experts and many scientists have launched a worldwide campaign to "save the planet" from the catostrophic and devastating effects that global warming. The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) predicts billions of people face drought and food shortages because of the predicted rising temperatures. The United Nations is demanding 86$ billion in funding to deal with the future climate change crisis. To make it more interesting there are notable scientists debunk these claims of "human caused" Global Warming - calling Global Warming a hoax. In fact, over 400 leading researchers and scientists have challenged the assertion that man-made global warming endangers the planet.

"I find the Doomsday picture Al Gore is painting — a six-meter sea level rise, 15 times the IPCC number — entirely without merit," said Dutch atmospheric scientist Hendrik Tennekes.

According to the Washington Times, 2007 was a year of Global Cooling for much of the world.
"Since the mid-19th century, the mean global temperature has increased by 0.7 degrees Celsius. This slight warming is not unusual, and lies well within the range of natural variation. Carbon dioxide continues to build in the atmosphere, but the mean planetary temperature hasn't increased significantly for nearly nine years. While the artic ice is melting...Antarctica is getting colder and in 2007 South America has experienced one of its coldest winters in decades. Unexpected bitter cold swept the entire Southern Hemisphere in 2007. Johannesburg, South Africa, had the first significant snowfall in 26 years. Australia experienced the coldest June ever. In northeastern Australia, the city of Townsville underwent the longest period of continuously cold weather since 1941. In New Zealand, the weather turned so cold that vineyards were endangered."

"Recent weeks have seen the return of unusually cold conditions to the Northern Hemisphere. On Dec. 7, St. Cloud, Minn., set a new record low of minus 15 degrees Fahrenheit. On the same date, record low temperatures were also recorded in Pennsylvania and Ohio."

"Extreme cold weather is occurring worldwide. On Dec. 4, in Seoul, Korea, the temperature was a record minus 5 degrees Celsius. Nov. 24, in Meacham, Ore., the minimum temperature was 12 degrees Fahrenheit colder than the previous record low set in 1952. The Canadian government warns that this winter is likely to be the coldest in 15 years."

Climate Change is the Norm
One thing is certain is that "change" is the norm in our life and in our world. Our weather and climate are always changing and will continue to change and have changing dramatically over millions of years. With any change comes the challenge to adapt. In the past, climate changes have resulted in extinction of entire species - and at the same time provided opportunites for the survivors and those able to adapt to change.

"Climate changes in the past over Geological time periods (millions and tens of millions of years) have been very drastic. During cold periods, much of the planet, even thousands of miles from both poles have been ice-covered by huge glaciers and during warm periods, the same regions may have been sub-tropical or even tropical. Accompanying this have been large changes in sea-level so that some areas of land have either become flooded completely or left high and dry."

Who is right? Who is wrong? Should we be afraid? What should we do? Is the Global Warming scare a scam? People, money, crops, animals, plants and perhaps human civilization itself hang in the balance. GreatGlobalWarming.com is dedicated to answering these questions and providing you with the facts about Global Warming.

Fact #1: Global Warming is great...enjoy it! Without global warming the earth would be a frozen, lifeless rock floating in space. To help those kids (and adults) that have been misled or confused...let's make something very clear... the earth's climate is extremely complex and no one can accurately predict the weather (not to mention the global climate changes) any more than a week or two in advance.

The earth is so huge and dynamic that computer models regularly bring back seasonal predictions which are grossly inaccurate. There are forces at work scientists simply don't know about or understand yet. For instance, studies of ice core samples that date back over 400,000 years show dramatic changes in temperature with increases in carbon dioxide seeming to mirror increases in temperature. But no one knows why. No one knows if it's higher temperatures that cause increases in carbon dioxide or just the opposite.

While it's popular to want to blame human pollution and carbon dioxide output for global warming there are serious scientific arguments against that theory. Not the least of which is that according to NASA satellite data over the last 9 years it's not happening. Yes, we see melting of glaciers at the north pole but just the opposite is happening in the Antarctic. In fact, the vast majority of the Antarctic landmass is rapidly gaining ice and snow cover.
According to NASA scientists:

"Sea Ice May Be on Increase in the Antarctic ...in the Southern Ocean, with increased precipitation rates and deeper snow, the additional load of snow becomes so heavy that it pushes the Antarctic sea ice below sea level. This results in even more and even thicker sea ice when the snow refreezes as more ice."

> source - NASA antarctic ice growing

Of course, the earth has had long periods of Global Warming and Global Cooling. In fact, Global Cooling would be much more devastating for mankind. Imagine...giant glaciers, increasingly cold temperatures worldwide and lowering plant and food production which global cooling would cause. That's exactly what happened during the Giant Ice Age and many species were made extinct from the harshness of those climate changes...certainly, global warming is preferable. Could the real cause for Global warming be that big hot bright thing in the sky... called the Sun? The power of the sun dwarfs anything humans could contribute to heating our atmosphere and it's been warming the earth for millions of years. There's more than one side of the story on this important issue...we're here to bring it.

What about Carbon Dioxide and our Carbon Footprint?
The short story is that carbon dioxide is a naturally occuring gas in our atmosphere and in fact is only a small component of our earth's atmosphere. Carbon dioxide is produced both naturally and by human but only about 3 percent of ALL CARBON DIOXIDE in our atmosphere is from human activity. Something called "Greenhouse Effect" is a naturally occuring effect in our atmosphere which helps trap the sun's heat - like a blanket - and keeps our earth warm and makes life possible on Earth. About 95 percent of the earth's atmospheric warming is due to the is Greenhouse Effect is due to water vapor, 99.999 percent of which is of natural origin.

Wha about water vapor and Global Warming?
We'll say it again because this is important to the discussion...remember...99.999 percent of the atmosphere's warming is from all natural water vapor. Carbon-dioxide emissions due to human activity only account for about one tenth of one percent of greenhouse gasses. But of that miniscule percentage of carbon dioxide which humans contribute to - what can we do and will it have any impact? When there are major forces at work - such as the sun, the oceans, water vapor and even fires. In fact, scientists estimated that in one week, Southern California's wildfires spewed the same amount of carbon dioxide _ the primary global warming gas _ as the state's power plants and vehicles did.

"On average, wildfires in the United States each year pump 322 million tons of carbon dioxide. That's about 5 percent of what the country emits by burning fossil fuels, such as gasoline and coal, according to the new research published online Thursday in the peer-reviewed journal Carbon Balance and Management."

Factoring in the other greenhouse gases, the total human contribution to the greenhouse effect is about 0.3 percent. In other words, about 99.7 percent of the greenhouse effect is due entirely to nature. It's this 3% of carbon dioxide that humans cause which some scientists claim causes global warming and threatens our world. But common sense and review of the facts - including study of 400,000 years of core samples which clearly indictate the earth has had global warming, global cooling (remember the Ice Age) and dramatic climate changes without any possible influence of human caused global warming. Yes, the climate changes - and always has...we just have to deal with it.

Fact #2: Yes, Global Warming is caused by the Sun. In case you were never taught this in school...the Sun is what heats the earth. The Sun is about 10,000 degrees worth of hot...and HUGE...about 1 million times as big as the earth. Oh...and Global Warming is nothing new. Global Warming has been going on for 100's of thousands and likely millions of years...all without any help from human produced carbon dioxide that you hear so much talk about today.

With all the hysterical news, misinformation and hype surrounding the "threat" of global warming would simply like to say...that Global Warming is Great - be thankful it's not 475 degrees below zero (which is what it would be without the SUN).

FOREST FIRES - not so Trival for CARBON DIOXIDE EMISSIONS

For every acre of forest that burns naturally, the carbon dioxide emissions are equivalent to two cars driven for a year.

Furthermore, the US purposefully sets about 6 million acres of prescribed burning per year...thats worth about 12 million cars/per of carbon dioxide. According to the National Interagency Fire Center, the 2006 fire season witnesseed over 96,000 fires burning over 9.87acres. Alaskan wildfires alone contribute up to 27 percent of the nation's yearly fire-related carbon dioxide emissions.

2007 Fire Stats
Wildland Fires/Acres - 79,727 fires burned 8,915,700 acres
Prescribed Fires/Acres - 23,530 fires burned 2,969,429 acres
Wildland Fire Use/Acres - 341 fires burned 419,685 acres

TOTAL ACRES burned in 2007: 12,304,814 - equivalent to 24 million cars worth of annual carbon dioxide pollution ... now THAT'S SOME KIND OF CARBON FOOTPRINT!
++ Keep in mind ... this is all just the US.

Mercury, Toxins and other things humans can thank nature for...
It's not just humans that put toxins into our environment - you can blame nature too. Good old "mother earth" is a polluter in a major way, thanks to forest fires. Worldwide biomass burning is estimated to contribute up to 50%, 40%, 25% and 16% of the annual human-made emission of carbon monoxide, carbon dioxide, mercury and methane. Mercury? Yes, wildfires emit Mercury too. Dangerous stuff. Mercury's what they call a hazmat team in to remove if some kid in school drops a thermometer in science class.

And according to a 2007 research study, forest fires release more mercury into the atmosphere than previously thought. Mercury, released into the atmosphere falls back onto Earth and accumulates, particularly in North American wetlands and also ends up in our food chain. Fires and other blazes emit 30 percent as much mercury as industrial sources according to recent studies.

> Scientists Estimate Mercury Emissions from U.S. Forest Fires

> Studies on Fire, Mercury and our atmosphere

Worldwide biomass burning may also a major source of reactive chlorine (Cl) that participates actively in the chemical cycles of air pollution. Researchers concluded that biomass burning" appears to be the single largest, known source of atmospheric CH3Cl [methyl chloride; estimated to contribute about 640,000 tons of Cl per year] and a major source of inorganic Cl in many continental regions."

Facts: NO correlation between Carbon Dioxide and Global Temperature over the Last Decade

November 27, 2007

Is anyone listening? There is NO correlation found between carbon dioxide and global temperature. That's what Joseph D'Aleo, CMM concluded following a recent study of satellite data on global Temperature and Carbon Dioxide levels. As he says...

"Temperature peaked in 1998 and have shown no warming for a decade now. Many scientists have been remarking about this trend for several years but no one takes heed, preferring to believe models than actual data. Here is the satellite derived global temperature trend since 1979. Note the cooling globally near the volcanically active periods of the early 1980s and 1990s. Note also the warm spike associated with the super El Nino that seemingly marked the beginning of the end of the warm Pacific trend that began in 1978."

"Temperature peaked in 1998 and have shown no warming for a decade now. Many scientists have been remarking about this trend for several years but no one takes heed, preferring to believe models than actual data...(the debate about) Global warming is over. Man is not responsible."

Who is Joseph D'Aleo and does he know what he's talking about?
Among other qualifications, Mr. Joseph D’Aleo was the first Director of Meteorology at the cable TV Weather Channel. He has over 30 years experience in professional meteorology. Mr. D’Aleo is a Certified Consultant Meteorologist and was elected a Fellow of the American Meteorological Society (AMS). He has served as a member and then chairman of the American Meteorological Society’ Committee on Weather Analysis and Forecasting, and has co-chaired national conferences for both the American Meteorological Society and the National Weather Association. Mr. D’Aleo was elected a Councilor for the AMS.

The Sky is NOT FALLING... GLOBAL WARMING is the GREATEST SCAM in HUMAN HISTORY

November, 2007
Global Warming ScamFOUNDER OF THE WEATHER CHANNEL SPEAKS OUT
A TV Weatherman since 1953, John has been a TV weatherman in Champaign, Peoria and Chicago, Illinois; Omaha, Nebraska, Milwaukee, Wisconsin and New York City. For seven years he was the weatherman on "Good Morning, America" on the ABC Network. John also was cofounder of "The Weather Channel" on cable.

The Greatest SCAM in history is what John calls the fear and media hype that's going on about Global Warming. Mr. Coleman can barely believe how many people have fallen for the global warming claims and predictions of disaster. Coleman said that climate change is a big lie. Coleman, a weatherman himself who founded the Weather Channel, claims to have read dozens of scientific papers and spoke with numerous scientists, and they also agree that there is no such thing as global warming. Calling global warming and climate change one a scam, Coleman believes that in time the climate theory will be proven to be a scam when none of the predicted catastrophic events actually materialize.

Global warming?
By Mark Jaffe / Denver Post
"William Gray, meteorology professor emeritus at Colorado State... (Post / Kathryn Scott Osler) «12»The words "global warming" provoke a sharp retort from Colorado State University meteorology professor emeritus William Gray: "It's a big scam." "

Christopher Essex, a mathematician at the University of Western Ontario in Canada explains there are serious problems with climate models. "The models are trying to project a future world...without a complete theoretical base on how climate works and the risk of small errors being amplified."

"The Earth does have natural cycles of cooling and warming - during the past 740,000 years there have been eight cycles with four ice ages. "

LAWRENCE SOLOMON, Financial Post
Friday, March 02, 2007

Claude Allegre, one of France's leading socialists and among her most celebrated scientists, was among the first to sound the alarm about the dangers of global warming. That was 15 years ago. Dr. Allegre was among the 1500 prominent scientists who signed "World Scientists' Warning to Humanity," a highly publicized letter stressing that global warming's "potential risks are very great" and demanding a new caring ethic that recognizes the globe's fragility in order to stave off "spirals of environmental decline, poverty, and unrest, leading to social, economic and environmental collapse."

Today is an entirely different story...why? Because of data. "...the United Nations Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change commissioned billions of dollars worth of research by thousands of scientists and now with a wealth of data now in, Dr. Allegre has recanted his views. To his surprise, the many climate models and studies failed dismally in establishing a man-made cause of catastrophic global warming. Meanwhile, increasing evidence indicates that most of the warming comes of natural phenomena. Dr. Allegre now sees global warming as over-hyped and an environmental concern of second rank.

September, in an article entitled "The Snows of Kilimanjaro" in l' Express, the French weekly. His article cited evidence that Antarctica is gaining ice and that Kilimanjaro's retreating snow caps, among other global-warming concerns, come from natural causes. "The cause of this climate change is unknown," he states as a matter of fact. There is no basis for saying, as most do, that the "science is settled."

Amazon Forests Green-Up During 2005 Drought

October 2007

The Amazon rain forest appears to be stronger and more resiliant to climate change than previously thought. A recent study based on nine years of the satellite observations focusing on the Amazon rain forest have resulted in some dramatic findings that surprised NASA scientists. Global warming computer models cycle models predicted that Amazon forests are vulnerable to both long- and short-term droughts, but satellite observations showed the opposite. Instead of drying up after a major drought in 2005, the Amazon forest actually greened up during the dry season. Because of fewer rainclouds there was more sun for the forest to absorb - hense more photosynthesis. These findings suggest that Amazon forests, although threatened by human-caused deforestation and fire and seem to be more resilient to climate changes than ecosystem models assume.

GLACIERS and ICE Information

We've all heard about the doom and gloom reports about the Artic Ice melting in Greenland and the North Pole but what do you know about the ice on the other end of the world...Antarctica? Did you know that Antarctica is growing? And Antarctica is HUGE... about twice the size of the United States? Antarctica contains about 70% of all the world's freshwater (frozen as ice) and 90% of ALL THE ICE IN THE WORLD? According to scientists, the ice in Antarctica is GROWING between about 30-45 billion tons every year. In some places the ice in Antarctica is over 15,000 feet thick! The world and it's climate are a complex and ever changing - we have dramatic changes going on at both ends of the world - and for what seem to be reasons of power, money, arrogance, politics and greed we only get one side of the story in the media and from our politicians. GreatGlobalWarming.com is here to provide news and information about global warming issues that most people don't hear or know about.

The Antarctic Ice Sheet covers five million square miles. The Greenland Ice Sheet covers another 700,000 square miles. Combined, they're twice as big as the contiguous United States. Combined, they're 100 times bigger than all the rest of the world's glaciers put together.

The current South Pole research station is also slowly being buried. A new station is now being built on top of the ice to replace it.

According to a recent study using satellite radar altimetry measurements the amount of ice on the interior of the ANTARCTIC IS INCREASING SIZEABLY - by around 45 BILLION TONS PER YEAR. The East Antarctic ice-sheet interior north of 81.6°S increased in mass by 45 ± 7 billion metric tons per year from 1992 to 2003.

http://www.sciencemag.org/cgi/content/abstract/308/5730/1898

"...each year, about 2200 gigatonnes of snow fall on the Antarctic ice sheet and sink toward deeper layers, where it slowly changes into ice..."

"Within the past 200 years, the ice sheet seems to have switched fairly rapidly from a negative mass balance to a positive mass balance. A positive mass balance means that more ice is accumulating than is leaving the ice sheet."
> Science Daily - Scientists Detect Thickening Of West Antarctic Ice Sheet

The ice sheet covering the interior of Antarctica is thickening, researchers report in the journal Science. This bulge, which was recorded by satellite, may temporarily buffer rising sea levels, they believe. Antarctica's "weight gain" is due to extra snowfall, caused by rising temperatures, the US-UK team thinks.

> Antarctic Ice interior ice is thickening

SATELLITES SHOW OVERALL INCREASES IN ANTARCTIC SEA ICE COVER
> SATELLITES SHOW OVERALL INCREASES IN ANTARCTIC SEA ICE COVER

"The Southern Hemispheric area ice coverage is the highest in the satellite record, just beating out 1995, 2001, 2005 and 2006. Since 1979, the trend has been up for the total Antarctic ice extent."
http://icecap.us/index.php/go/joes-blog/a_new_record_for_antartic_total_ice_extent

The scientists said Antarctica is the only continent that is cooling. They can not say why.
Flow measurements for the Ross ice streams, using special satellite-based radars, indicate that movement of some of the ice streams has slowed or halted, allowing the ice to thicken...

"Perhaps, after 10,000 years of retreat from the ice-age maximum, researchers turned on their instruments just in time to catch the stabilization or re-advance of the ice sheet," Richard B. Alley of Pennsylvania State University, wrote in a commentary accompanying the Science paper."

In the beginning there was nothing. God said, 'Let there be light!' And there was light. There was still nothing, but you could see a whole lot better.

In the Beginning...
Because of the wonderful way the earth was created the earth is a perfect place for life to grow and thrive. According to scientists, the earth has increased in temperature by less than one degree in a hundred years yet somehow that has a panic worldwide and demands from the United Nations that they need billions of our dollars to avert disaster. Curiously they are relying on climate forecasts. Climate forecasts are simply long term weather forecasts. And as we all know the weather forecasts are frequently wrong and rarely try to predict any weather over 10-15 days out with any real accuracy. Because climate forecasts span tens of years the margin for errors is so great as to be ridiculous and even absurd.

FACTS ABOUT OUR SUN - Hotter than any SUV!

  • Global warming and the SUNCould it be possible the sun is the primary cause of global warming?
  • The Sun contains 99.8% of the mass of our entire solar system.
  • The Sun consumes more mass in one second than ALL of the fossil fuel ever burned on earth
  • The Sun is very active and variable - it has solar eruptions and sunflares
  • One sunflare can generate enough energy to power the entire United States for 20 years
  • The energy from a moderate sunflare is equal to completely covering the Earth's continents with a yard of dynamite and detonating it all at once.
  • Sunflares are our solar system's largest explosive event - they can travel at speeds of 250,000 miles an hour
  • Sunflares (also known as Solar Flares) are HOT! How about 20 million degrees hot!
  • The average solar flare puts out about as much energy as a thousand hydrogen bombs
  • The largest Solar Flares can explode with a force equivalent to about 10 million megatons, where one megaton is about the destructive power of a hydrogen bomb.
  • It has long been known that the Sun is neither featureless nor steady. (Theophrastus first identified sunspots in the year 325 B.C.)
  • The Sun has a cycles where the Sun's solar activity runs on an 11-year cycle
  • If the total output of the Sun was gathered for one second it would provide the U.S. with enough energy, at its current usage rate, for the next 9,000,000 years
  • The Sun's outer atmosphere is called the Corona. The corona occassionally explodes. Such an explosion is called a Coronal Mass Ejection (CME). The explosion of single CME can contain a billion tons of (extremely hot - 20 million degrees!) matter that can be accelerated to several million miles per hour. This Solar material streaks out through the interplanetary medium, impacting any planet or spacecraft in its path.

It is an undeniable fact that the most important force and cause global warming is our sun. Without the sun the earth's average global temperature would be about the same temperature of space which is about 475 degrees below zero. Even a child can understand that when the earth is exposed to the sun - it warms up - and has done so every day for millions (if not billions) of years. The sun is responsible for over 99% of all the global warming we have. As the earth orbits around the sun, the earth itself "wobbles" and tilts in a regular pattern every year. As the earth tilts closer to the sun - the heat from the sun causes "summer".

Scientific American - Global Warming Debate is over - 90% or Very Likely? Don't Think so!

In an article written by David Biello , the bold headlines of in the February 2007 Scientific American claim:

"Climate Change Verdict: Science Debate Ends, Solution Debate Begins"
http://www.sciam.com/article.cfm?articleId=A1E03678-E7F2-99DF-349533FA77189693

Did the Scientific American do any thinking for themselves? To us, it looks like they have become mouthpieces for the IPCC. The same group that stands to make millions and control billions by scaring the planet about global warming with their doom and gloom scenarios.

According to the article: "The IPCC summary for policymakers definitively proclaimed the globe to be warming as a result of human activity, now the science shifts to impacts and solutions IPCC The debate over whether Earth's climate is changing and if humanity is responsible for that change closed in Paris on February 2. The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) released its summary for policymakers...in which it said that climate change is "unequivocal" and estimated the chances of humans being behind it at 90 percent, or 'very likely.'"

Scientific American goes on to say there was Global Warming before...

"In fact, the last time the Arctic and Antarctic were three degrees Celsius (5.4 degrees Fahrenheit) warmer—roughly 125,000 years ago—sea levels rose by as much as six meters (20 feet) thanks to the melting of the Greenland ice sheet. "

Hmmm......... we had global warming 125,000 years ago? Isn't that interesting? There were no factories or SUV's around at that time were there?

Just for you thinkers out there...

a) As Scientific American shows...there has always been global warming before - with and without humans

b) There has also been massive global cooling (remember the ICE AGE?) - but they didn't mention that little detail

b) Obviously, just because there may be global warming doesn't mean humans caused it.

c) In fact, there is no proof whatsoever that humans are the cause global warming at all (read the rest of this website for more information)

d) Greed, power and arrogance are the most likely reasons for all these grand pronouncements - all these scientists need the work and why claim you are trying to "save the world" while you're at it.

e) It's curious how these same scientists can't predict the weather 15 days out with any reliability but seem to think can predict the global climate 50 - 100 years out. Of course, they're scientists and must be right - or could they just be greedy, power hungry and enjoying all the attention?

REMEMBER THE ICE AGE?

Global warming can cause extinction The Global climate is a wild, enormous and uncontrollable phenomenon. Climate changes have been going on for millions of years - way before any manmade impact was possible. Can we stop the smallest storm? Can we slow down or speed up the winter or summer? Of course not...no matter how many SUV's we pull off our streets the climate does what it will. A perfect example of how global warming is part of nature can be found in a study of the ICE AGE and the evidence of extinction of animals that followed - including the extinction of the wooly mammoth, the Alaskan wolve and the saber toothed cats (among many others).

The "Great Ice Age" began a million or more years ago. Giant mountain glaciers formed on every continent, the icecaps of Antarctica and Greenland were larger and thicker than today with huge glacers in some places measuring several thousand feet thick. These gigantic glaciers all began to melt about 20,000 years ago because of global warming. And according to scientists this was a inconsistant and fluctuating process where glaciers would melt (called "glacial recession") over a long period time only to reverse their course and grow again due to a following period of global cooling.

"Fluctuations of the Great Ice Age climates from cool and wet to warm and dry produced marked environmental changes far from the glaciated areas... many animals suited to cooler climates became extinct, especially larger mammals such as woolly mammoth, mastodon, dire wolf and the saber-toothed tiger."
US Department of the Interior / US Geological Survey

The end of Great Ice Age, the massive melting of the glaciers, the extinction of plants and entire species of animals - the formation of large rivers, valleys, lakes and mountains was a completely wild and natural process of a size and power that is difficult to fully appreciate. It should be easy to understand that the same extraordinary forces that caused massive global climate changes during the ice age are still at work today. And yes...they will do what they want whether we live by the ocean, recycle our plastic bags or drive our little SUV's.

SABER TOOTHED CATS (Tigers) - (extinct due to global warming)
One of the best known of all the extinct ice age animals, the powerfully built sabre-tooth cat was equipped with lethal knife-like canine teeth. The sabre-tooth used these to inflict fatal wounds on their prey such as bison and sheep. Their long canine teeth - measued up to 7 inches long. Saber-toothed cats are some of the best known and most popular of all Ice Age animals. They are among the most impressive carnivores ever to have lived. Saber-toothed cats ranged throughout much of the world during the last Ice Age. Sabre-tooths roamed through much of North America except for the far north and through South America, along the Pacific coast. The sabertooth has been recovered from many sites in both North and South America. Saber toothed tiger fossils were found throughout the US in such places as Missouri, California, Illinois and other sites. Large numbers of Saber Toothed Cat skeletons have been found in the Pleistocene tar pits of Rancho La Brea in Los Angeles. This species, called S. californicus, has been adopted as California's state fossil. It is widely believed that changes in global climate lead to their extinction.

ALASKAN GREAY WOLVES
According to research on Extinct Alaskan Wolves funded by the National Science Foundation

The ancient gray wolves lived in Alaska continuously from at least 45,000 years ago and became extinct some 12,000 years ago, and the wolves in Alaska today are not their descendents but a different subspecies.

Does the research on the extinction of Alaskan Wolves have implications for global warming today?
"When environmental change happens very rapidly, animals cannot adapt, especially when the few places for them to move as habitats shrink; they are more likely to go extinct," Van Valkenburgh said. "It was a rapid climate change in the late Pleistocene."

" The saber-toothed cat and other large mammals became extinct about 10,000 to 11,000 years ago when their prey disappeared due to factors that included human hunting and dramatic global warming at the end of the Pleistocene..."

Between about 18,000 and 11,500 years ago the climate and environments of worldwide - in all continents - changed rapidly. Temperatures were warming. Rainfall patterns were changing. The glaciers were melting. The seasonal difference in temperatures was increasing...today we call it Global Warming. The only problem is there were no SUV's 18,000 years ago!

MAMMOTH FOSSIL - (extinct due to global warming)
Thanks to global warming we don't have any wooly mammoths in the United States any more. However, scientists have discovered them in Texas, Colorado, California and many other states. In case you don't know.. Woolly Mammoths closely resembled the modern elephant in certain physical characteristics such as tusks and an elongated trunk. Adult Mammoths stood about 12 feet tall and weighed around 11,000 to 18,000 pounds. Mammoths had large heads with a dome on the top that sloped downward toward the backside of the animal.  As indicated by the name, Woolly, the entire body of the Mammoth was covered with hair.  The Mammoths began to die off about 15,000 years ago.  Their ultimate extinction may have been a result of global warming, loss of suitable food supplies, lower breeding numbers, or the hunting of early hominids.  Their extinction may have been a result of all, a few, or one of the previous stated factors.

Information adapted from: http://www.universaltreasures.com/mammothbook.htm

In 2004 researchers, a team of students and archaeologists from Texas A&M University's Center for the Study of the First Americans found remains of a wooly mammoth in Texas. The remains of a large mammoth was found buried in a sand pit just outside Lake Jackson, Texas. They estimated it to be about 38,000 years old. Mammoths had very large rootless tusks that grew out of the skull and continued growing throughout the Mammoth’s life.  In some excavated remains the tusks exceeded nine feet in length from the tip to the base of the skull.

GLOBAL WARMING - the IPCC, the Nobel Prize and JUNK SCIENCE

The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) and Albert Arnold (Al) Gore Jr. were awarded of the Nobel Peace Prize "for their efforts to build up and disseminate greater knowledge about man-made climate change, and to lay the foundations for the measures that are needed to counteract such change". Pretty impressive...but did they deserve it?

The IPCC, the Nobel Prize and Global warming are all hog-tied together with junk science - at least according to a curious statistician who dug into the IPCC's own data. In Jonathan Lowe's remarkable article "The Cost of Green" he summarizes what the IPCC is really all about...

"Hang onto your wallets, the IPCC is about to take the global warming swindle to the next level... The kicker is that when their own data is held up to physical reality it shows their entire premise to be wrong."

Mr. Lowe summarizes his findings and study of the actual physical data used by the IPCC as follows:

"...either there is no relationship between CO2 concentration and global temperature; or there is such a rapidly decreasing exponential relationship that it would take several doublings of CO2 concentration to achieve the same amount of temperature increase that occurred from 1975 to 2006..."

"In Summary the actual physical data used by the IPCC clearly demonstrates that:

  1. Human emissions are not the primary source for increased concentration of CO2 in the atmosphere and in fact represent less than 30% of the contribution.
  2. Human emissions cannot be responsible for global temperature changes.
  3. Changes in concentration of atmospheric CO2 have virtually no effect on global temperature.

This simple demonstration of basic science using IPCC data begs the question why was this not done by the IPCC scientists who are all top scientists more than capable of recognizing these simple shortcomings of the anthropogenic global warming hypothesis?"

"The short answer is that the IPCC (Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change) is not a scientific entity, but a political body. And it's politicians like Mr. Dion, Ms. May, Mr. Layton, Mr. Duceppe and now, sadly Mr. Baird who don't want to recognize these simple shortcomings of the global warming crusade."

GLOBAL WARMING and POLAR BEARS

Polar Bears and Global WarmingWe all love polars bears. These great animals have survived for hundreds of thousands (if not millions) of years in the world's harshest environments but we're told they are threatened and need our protection because of Global Warming caused by humans. The US Fish & Wildlife Service is "considering" placing polar bears on the endangered species list and come January 2008 they will make their determination. Make no doubt about it...they will. And it's not because polar bear popluations are drastically falling - they're not. In fact, according to many of the local Eskimos who probably know them best - the polar bears are doing just fine. And the "experts" all but ignored these locals - the Intuit who have an entirely different opinion. The Inuit Tapiriit Kanatami and the Inuit Circumpolar Council made a joint submission opposing the proposal.

"We felt it was absolutely necessary to provide our comments and point out that this process did not involve us, when it should have at the beginning, given the potential for impact on us as Inuit in Canada,"
said Mary Simon, president of Inuit Tapiriit Kanatami.

These "experts" are either stupid or inconsiderate or both. How on earth could they not talk to the native people who depend on the polar bear more than any other people? The Inuit are absolutely AGAINST putting the polar bear on the endangered species list because they are afraid the listing would hurt their commercial polar bear hunting industry, which caters mostly to wealthy Americans.

Inuit reject U.S. polar bear proposal

So what's the big problem since the US Fish & Wildlife Service resently stated: "World wide, polar bear populations remain relatively stable..." The worry is, in three words..."global warming predictions."

According to the lastest study by the USGS - Global warming trends will result in loss of approximately two-thirds of the world's current polar bear population by the mid 21st century. Their "study" was actually an attempt to predict the future and seemed to be focused primarily on providing computer model results that would use global warming at it's root to prove what they wanted. Remember, these are predictions of weather and climate brought to you by the inadequate computer models which can't predict the weather any better than the Farmer's Almanac. To no surprise, they "flipped their coin" with their computers and it looks bad for the polar bears - with doom and gloom "possibilities" of ever shrinking habitat and dwindling Artic ice. Somehow this powerful species that has endured for hundreds of thousands of years without any help from anyone is now in dire need of our protection...and money.

Well, it's a safe bet for these experts at predicting the future - they have a 50/50 chance of being right and they get paid even if their bet is wrong. Oh...if they are right, and the Artic ice goes away - is there anything they can do to stop some kind of major population reduction? Certainly not. But if that happens they'll holler for more money...you can count on it.

GLOBAL WARMING FACTS
The earth has increased in temperature by less than one degree in a hundred years yet somehow that has a panic worldwide. Like "Chicken Little" who was hit on the head by an acorn and began to cry "the sky is falling!" ... the same thing is happening now with global warming. In fact, the great global warming scare is the biggest hoax and money grab since the Ice Age happened 10,000 years ago.

FOLLOW THE MONEY...

Global Warming MoneyThe UN is demanding - not asking - that rich nations cough up $86 billion by 2015 to help the poor nations adapt to future catastophic changes predicted by increases in temperature and global warming. The United States is supposed to dole out $40 billion. Of course, the U.N. will oversee that money. This is the same organization that has squandered, lost, mismanaged and/or stole millions of dollars from their infamous "Oil for Food" program. And it could take a 100 years to see if their global climate doomsday forecast to come true - by then the money will be long gone. And what if their global warming forecast is wrong? Once again they have a 100 years to wield this massive financial power however they see fit.

What this is really about is a scam of global proportions in which sympathies for the poor are being played while our pockets are being picked. The United Nations should be ashamed of itself...but that's just the way they've always done business.

2007 OZONE HOLE is Normal - Flashback in time...

Remember the last the sky was falling...when it was the ozone hole that was going to wipe out the world? Did you hear the news on the Ozone hole for 2007? Guess what? It's normal now...so it's not newsworthy to the mainstream media. It was Scientists and politicians will climb over themselves to take credit for saving the world on this one but once again - it was very likely the result of natural, unstoppable and largely unpredictable causes. And it will probably happen again.

Remember CFSs, chlorofluorocarbons and and "Freon"? Chlorofluorocarbons have been banned since 1996 because the chlorine molecules released were supposed to "destroy the ozone layer".

"The problem with this theory is that the chlorine molecules in Freon are heavier than air; they settle to the ground upon release - many tens of thousands of feet below the ozone layer.

And even if they didn't, natural processes release exponentially more chlorine into the surrounding air than anything done by the hand of man. For example, the eruption of Mount Pinatubo in the Philippines generated more chlorine in a few short hours than if all the man-made CFCs in the world were vented en masse. "

Was all the money spent on closing down the freon industry and all the money spent on research necessary? Refrigerators and cars now us R-134a - refrigerant which is not nearly as efficient as Freon - so now we burn more energy and it costs more to keep our cars, homes and food cool. All brought to you by the same folks that holler about global warming.

Hurricane Forecasts

In both 2005 and 2006 the experts tried to predict the weather for the upcoming hurricane season...6 months in advance. Each forecast was for an above-average Atlantic hurricane season. The actual results for both years were just the opposite...below normal hurricane seasons for both 2006 and 2007. Colorado State forecaster William Gray initially predicted 9 hurricanes for 2007 - only six hurricanes formed. The forcasting team also predicted nine hurricanes for the 2006 season, - only five developed. Their is little doubt the renouned Hurricane forecaster William Gray is among the best in his field - but even the best of modern science cannot predict 6 months these monsterous storms in advance with great accuracy. This begs the question...if they can't predict the weather just a few months out - how can they predict what the global climate will be 50 or 100 years out as is often asserted by the Global Warming fear mongers? It's clear that they can't.

CORN causes Pollution, Global Warming and Higher Food Prices - How Great is Corn Really?

Corn is a hot commodity these days. If you're a farmer, chances are you're making good money for the first time in years and switching your soy bean crop over to corn if you haven't already. If your John Deer your tractor sales are sky rocketing. Corn is heralded as the environmental savior of in our energy future. Who needs oil? We've got corn! Green fields of corn fill the backgrounds car commercials and energy companies. With mandated ethonal in our gasoline and with 111 ethanol plants already in operation in the United States and another 75 under construction - corn seems to be a great solution for our energy, air pollution and global warming problems. But as GreatGlobalWarming.com has discovered...corn has serious problems. It appears that corn production for ethanol actually increases green house gasses - doing the exact opposite of what corn is supposed to do. And corn increases pollution in our water - pollutes the Gulf of Mexico and is a contributing to higher food prices helping fuel inflation. Corn ethanol subsidies totaled $7.0 billion in 2006.

"Filling the 25-gallon tank of an SUV with pure ethanol requires over 450 pounds of corn -- which contains enough calories to feed one person for a year. By putting pressure on global supplies of edible crops, the surge in ethanol production will translate into higher prices for both processed and staple foods around the world."

In an effort to solve our energy problem and hoping to create clean air - we've created a monster...a monster which apparently does little to solve our energy problem and likely impacts global warming in the opposite way it's intended.

Corn requires 29 percent more fossil energy than the fuel produced

Cornell ecologist's study finds that producing ethanol and biodiesel from corn and other crops is not worth the energy By Susan S. Lang Chris Hallman/University Photography Ecologist David Pimentel, shown here pumping gas, says that his analysis shows that producing ethanol uses more energy than the resulting fuel generates. Copyright © Cornell University ITHACA, N.Y. -- Turning plants such as corn, soybeans and sunflowers into fuel uses much more energy than the resulting ethanol or biodiesel generates, according to a new Cornell University and University of California-Berkeley study. "There is just no energy benefit to using plant biomass for liquid fuel," says David Pimentel, professor of ecology and agriculture at Cornell. "These strategies are not sustainable."

In terms of energy output compared with energy input for ethanol production, the study found that:

  • corn requires 29 percent more fossil energy than the fuel produced;
  • switch grass requires 45 percent more fossil energy than the fuel produced; and
  • wood biomass requires 57 percent more fossil energy than the fuel produced.

In terms of energy output compared with the energy input for biodiesel production, the study found that:

  • soybean plants requires 27 percent more fossil energy than the fuel produced, and
  • sunflower plants requires 118 percent more fossil energy than the fuel produced.

"The government spends more than $3 billion a year to subsidize ethanol production when it does not provide a net energy balance or gain, is not a renewable energy source or an economical fuel. Further, its production and use contribute to air, water and soil pollution and global warming," Pimentel says. He points out that the vast majority of the subsidies do not go to farmers but to large ethanol-producing corporations."

N2O release from agro-biofuel production harmful to Atmosphere and global warming

If you think CO2 is bad for our atmosphere, then you should know that nitrous oxide (N2O) is 300 times more harmful. This means very bad news for those who tout corn as the saving grace for global warming. A study by Nobel laureate Paul Crutzon and colleagues estimates that nitrous oxide (N2O) emissions released by corn production cause up to 50 percent more global warming than the substitution of ethanol for gasoline avoids. This would mean we could be doing just the opposite of what we are intending to accomplish by pushing corn and biofuels instead of gasoline.

"...the outcome is that the production of commonly used biofuels, such as biodiesel from rapeseed and bioethanol from corn (maize), can contribute as much or more to global warming by N2O (nitrous oxide),emissions than cooling by fossil fuel savings....The increasing use of biofuels to reduce dependence on imported fossil fuels and to achieve “carbon neutrality” will further cause atmospheric N2O concentrations to increase, fertilization. ...the reduced global warming (“saved CO2”) achieved by using biofuels instead of fossil fuel as energy sources is counteracted by release of N2O."

CORN Deadly for the Gulf of Mexico

Corn boom could expand ‘dead zone’ in Gulf

"JEFFERSON, Iowa - Because of rising demand for ethanol, American farmers are growing more corn than at any time since World War II. And sea life in the Gulf of Mexico is paying the price. The nation's corn crop is fertilized with millions of pounds of nitrogen-based fertilizer. And when that nitrogen runs off fields in Corn Belt states, it makes its way to the Mississippi River and eventually pours into the Gulf, where it contributes to a growing "dead zone" — a 7,900-square-mile patch so depleted of oxygen that fish, crabs and shrimp suffocate. The dead zone was discovered in 1985 and has grown fairly steadily since then, forcing fishermen to venture farther and farther out to sea to find their catch. For decades, fertilizer has been considered the prime cause of the lifeless spot. With demand for corn booming, some researchers fear the dead zone will expand rapidly, with devastating consequences."

"The Environmental Protection Agency estimates that up to 210 million pounds of nitrogen fertilizer enter the Gulf of Mexico each year."

""Corn agriculture practices release a lot of nitrogen," said Donald Scavia, a University of Michigan professor who has studied corn fertilizer's effect on the dead zone. "More corn equals more nitrogen pollution."

HIGHER FOOD PRICES can be Blamed on CORN for ETHANOL

It's good to be a corn farmer these days - and they're planting more corn than ever. Consumption of ethanol in the United States was expected to reach over 6 billion gallons in 2006. The U.S. government mandated the use of 7.5 billion gallons of biofuels per year by 2012. With the price of corn rising to the highest in a decade largely due to increasing demand for corn to make the popular biofuel ethanol, which is hailed as an alternative to gasoline. But this means food prices are rising too, putting the pinch on consumers. Because much of this corn is being sold as ethanol not food - the cost of groceries is going up. The low price of corn was always at the root of America’s low food prices. Corn is used to help feed hogs, chickens, dairy cows and is a vital ingredient for cereal, corn syrup, soda, candy, torillas and other food products. "Of 10,000 items in a typical grocery store, at least 2,500 use corn in some form during production or processing."

"With prices for corn rising, farmers are expected this year to switch acreage to corn from soybeans, wheat and even cotton to cash in on the higher prices. That will lead to lower production for those other products and thus, higher prices. Soybean prices are up nearly 30% from the recent low seen in September."

OIL SHALE EXPlORATION in the Rockies - "Oil from a Stone"

With OPEC price gouging the world for decades - pulling oil out of the ground for a few dollars a barrel then charging the US upwards of $90 a barrel - Americans have had enough of this robbery. It's about time the US fights back with a plan to become more energy independent. Perhaps there's hope - in our own back yard. Royal Dutch Shell chief scientist, Harold Vinegar is optimistic that he could be on top of the greatest change in oil power since oil crude was discovered in Alaska back in the 1960s. "...Vinegar has developed a cutting-edge technology that, according to Shell, will produce large quantities of high-quality oil without ravaging the local environment - and be profitable with prices around $30 a barrel. Now that oil is approaching $90, the odds on Shell's speculative bet are beginning to look awfully good.

The plan is to heat the oil shale rock deep underground 0in place

"Shell is convinced that oil shale is no myth and that after years of secret research, it is close to achieving this oil-based alchemy. Shell is not alone in this assessment. "Harold has broken the code," says oil shale expert Anton Dammer, director of the U.S. Department of Energy's Office of Naval Petroleum and Oil Shale Reserves."

But change won't happen overnight - it's estimated to take more than a decade to begin to realize any significant oil production. But we praise the efforts by Shell, Mobil and Exxon - the sooner this happens the better!
